Does anyone use Intersolv's PVCS Tracker?
Does PVCS Tracker interface with PVCS Version Manager?
If so, how well do they work together?

We currently use PVCS Version Manager for our Powerbuilder development,
and we are wondering whether PVCS Tracker would be a good investment or
not. We have an inhouse configuration tracking system that does well
with our mainframe programs for tracking and with our other PC
applications, but object-orientation is a different arena. Object names
for one can be up to 32 characters, vice the 8 character DOS filename.

We are not for sure what level to track for Configuration control. We
don't want to bury ourselves alive tracking small objects either. Are
there any standards out there? Or any good books dealing with this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The Tracker 3.0 interface into Version Manager is relatively cumbersome; files
are checked in and out using a dialog-based interface, rather than
drag-and-drop like you have with Version Manager itself. There are some very
nice features about the integration, though. For example, your Tracker SCRs
can be configured to includerevision information, and your
source code archives can be set to include version labels that relate
revisions to the SCRs with which they are associated.

BTY, Intersolv presently is Beta testing Tracker 4.0. I expect the new
version will include tighter integration with Version Manager than does
Tracker 3.0.

How you name your objects will have absolutely no impact on how Tracker will
work in your environment.

Your version control tool (Version Manager) will be the heart of your CM
system. Tracker can serve as an adjunct to this by helping you keep track of
which source code modules are impacted by which SCRs. It really isn't that
big a deal.
