There is a Usenet reorganization going on, see news.groups. We may be asked at some
point whether or not this newsgroup should continue to exist. This message also serves
to assert that this newsgroup continues to exist so that it would not be removed due
to inactivity.
Historically, this newsgroup has served its purpose initial purpose to promote and discuss
Arabic script adoption in software. When this newsgroup started, it was common to see
Arabic rendered in webpages as bitmaps. We've come a long way. Arabic script penetration
in commercial software remain limited. Also while unicode is the more universal encoding,
Microsoft Windows-1256 remains the defacto non-standard "standard" for wintel desktops.
In any case, I'd love to hear opinions either way.
