Yes and the notes that some stick to their fridge door - too.
goog: 'syntax aware editor'

Syntax highlighting help one to see the essentials and hides
the details of the syntax.
What do *YOU* think the creators of syntax highlighting intended ?

Menu's allow:
1. provision of a recogniser instead of having to remember,
2. grab a complete structure instead of building it [error
prone] from individual characters.

open office has some of these facilities.

emacs is reputed to be flexible and able to do such tasks.

Get it ?

Well you seem to have grasped the gist.

Ok, generally I hate vim, but if it can handle enough
of my different syntaxes, I'd learn to use it.

Thanks, perhaps some non-M$ will work.

Yes ! As a beginner, you may think it macho to have detailed
control over the 'bits'. But later you realise that most of the
stupid repetitive slog can/should be computerised.

That's coming too, so that creative people don't waste their
effort on stupid routine tasks.

Computing is not about computers [except for kiddies], it's
about managing the complexity = need better tools.

Maybe you could use such a grammar checker for your posts...

I think by "Menus allow" you mean "instant drop-down lists allow" you
to
complete expressions.

That's nice if all you want to do is write new lines. Most of
programming is
refactoring existing lines. Yes, colored syntax highlighting works
there too, but...

Open Office is a civilian tool; not for programming. You include it as
an
example, right?

> emacs is reputed to be flexible and able to do such tasks.

Yes, and all IDEs have some capacity there. Look up 'ctags'.

You may actually have seen this, it's known as the "Save As" option.
Unhappy as I am to be caught saying anything positive about Emacs,
there is no denying the plain facts of the matter: it has it.
