Can someone tell me where I can ftp some software to compute McCabe's CC
factor? I have never used such software (though I am told it is available). I
assume that the program reads in source code and compute the factor from that.
I would need something that reads COBOL code.

If such a package is not available by ftp, can someone tell me where I can find
a copy of a package to review for our organization?

Thanks.

You can try SET Laboratories PC-METRIC product for COBOL. It does the
Cyclomatic Complexity as well as Software Science and several other
metrics. The price is right ($274), but the COBOL version only runs
under MS-DOS, and it looks like you're using VMS. The only VMS
support right now is for FORTRAN, but C and Ada (no COBOL :-( )
are likely on their way. Their number is 503-829-7123 and they're
located in Mulino Oregon.

You could also try McCabe & Associates (somewhere in Maryland - I want to
say Greenbelt MD, but I'm pretty sure that's not right) or Verilog (somewhere
in Texas - Houston?) I'm not sure about VMS support for either of these,
but I know they have UNIX and MS-DOS versions (though maybe not UNIX
COBOL).

Keep in mind that the real value of these commercial metrics packages isn't
just the numbers they produce, but the post processing analysis tools
they give you to try and make sense of the numbers.

Verilog has a product called Logiscope which computes many
metrics including the McCabe complexity metric. The tool runs
on all workstation platforms and supports 80 languages and dialects
including Cobol. The total package including dynamic analysis
( test coverage analysis) capability is about $12k

The telephone number for Verilog is 1-800-424-3095 or
