Computer Science Department


Applications are invited for one or more tenure-track
assistant professor positions in the Computer Science Department.
All positions are subject to budgetary approval.
The closing date for all applications is February 8, 1999
or the first of the month thereafter, until the positions are filled.
Anticipated starting date is August 18, 1999.

Required qualifications for the position(s) include
a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or a closely related area),
and demonstrated potential for research, teaching and scholarship;
also candidate should have successful experience with diverse populations,
and a commitment to diversity.
Preference will be given to candidates
who can teach courses in the areas of Information Systems,
Internet Applications, and Software Systems \& Engineering,
and who can also collaborate with existing faculty in research.
The research interests of the department include
algorithms, artificial intelligence,
automated theorem proving, complexity theory, computational biology,
databases, object-oriented systems, and programming languages.

The Computer Science Department has approximately
400 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students.
BS and MS degrees are currently offered.
The department is housed in a state of the art, five year old building.
The University has a beautiful campus and enrolls around 14,000 students.

The computing infrastructure of the department consists of a network of Sun
servers, Sun, NeXT, Silicon Graphics and Dec workstations, X-terminals and
PC's. Additional computing facilities are provided by the University
Computing Center. The hi-tech aircraft and other industry in the Wichita
Metropolitan area provides ample opportunities for collaborative research.

Is there any possibility for telecommuting for these teaching positions? I am
currently an applications trainer looking for more challenging opportunities
that I can fulfill from my home.
