I'm using SPSS 16 for Mac, and I cannot view any of my old output
(.spo) files. I've seen the viewer application that is available for
Windows, but I have not seen anything similar for Mac. Does anyone
know of a way to read output from older versions of SPSS using SPSS 16
for Mac? Thanks!

Hi Jennifer,

I don't have or use SPSS 16 (on Mac or otherwise), but I recall posts here
stating that you have to install an optional viewer to view pre-v16 spo
files. So, I'd suggest re-running your SPSS installer and see if you can find
an option for that feature.

I found this on the Tech Support website.

There is no Legacy Viewer for old output (.spo) files for SPSS 16.0 for
Macintosh. There are no plans for one to be created. We must ask that
you regenerate your old output in the upgraded version. If you feel
strongly about having this for SPSS for Macintosh, please contact
product marketing at sug...@spss.com. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi Bruce,

I'm an idiot -- my apologies. I simply did not read Jennifer's post closely
enough. Thanks for stepping in and providing actually useful advice. :)

Cheers,
Doug

I've done that same trick myself, more than once. ;-)

Thanks for this info. I will definitely email them about this...it is
a huge inconvenience for me to have to regenerate all of my output
each time in order to view my work. Plus, I have extensive notes on my
old output that would not be recreated by rerunning the syntax....what
a pain!

I generally add notes as comments in the syntax file.
