Hey, I'm looking to make the Brave browser look identical to Chrome, as that is what i'm used to. I have changed most of the Brave icons to the Chrome icon using Resource Hacker on the brave.exe and chrome.dll in BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\86.1.16.72 (Pretty much identical to Chrome, as both Chrome and Brave are based on Chromium)

I know not many people would know this, but where would the location of the icons be? Would it be in a .dll or a .pak file in the Brave directory? I'm looking to change the back and forward icons from Brave to the same ones found in Chrome, and I assume it will be similar to the process I used earlier, however I can't seem to find where this UI data is stored.

Once again, I know this is r/chrome, but the structure of the Chrome directory is basically identical to the Brave directory. I really don't feel like swapping out files one by one because i'm hoping someone can help me out here, thanks!

I started noticing this weird black-mark over the Chrome icon on my taskbar. I was wondering if any of you folks could help me with it. I didn't install any new add-ons or add any new extensions. I just opened Chrome today and this came out of nowhere.

The missing Google Chrome icon is a common issue, but I couldn't find any clear solutions for this problem. I found several methods that have worked for some people, and so I suggest you to try them. Even though I can't guarantee it will work, it's worth giving a shot:

After the latest update (or a very recent one if not the latest; basically it showed up sometime leading up to or including Version 47.0.2526.111 (64-bit), which is what is currently running), the Chrome icon is showing a numeral one in the bottom-right corner (see image below). This doesn't appear to correspond to downloads, as I've cleared the download list on both profiles. It also doesn't appear to correspond to profile, as the circle with a 1 in it doesn't correspond with either of the profiles (I came across an article stating that the pizza icon that had shown up for someone was corresponding to the user), and it doesn't change based on active window.

Click the Chrome icon, and choose "quit", if you have any pending/active/paused downloads, it will offer you a chance to cancel or continue them. Cancel them, exit Chrome, and the number overlay should go away.

Sometimes downloads are suspended because Chrome has deemed the website "suspicious." These suspended downloads are listed as not complete so a number will pop up on the icon showing how many downloads are not complete.

If you want to continue downloading the file, click on Keep (and confirm when the popup asks you to verify), otherwise click on Discard to remove the file from the download list. This should take care of the distracting numbers in your icon.

I've been experimenting with a Chrome Extension, and I want to make one similar to my Google Voice Extension where the icon shows a little blue "1" next to the icon when I receive an event, Is this a whole separate icon? and then they just use the "setIcon" method? Like this

The gmail one seems to go all the up to 500! They can't have an icon for each number, or do they?? Is there something I can use thats made to do this stuff? I already have my icon, if I have to make a unique one I may just make like 10 and then have a "10+" icon. I am connecting it to an API which could have a lot of events.

I was recently trying to do the same thing and after some digging around I found the .desktop file located under /.local/share/applications. It had a name like chrome-randomestringhere-Default.desktop I was able to find which one it was by doing a quick grep in this directory for the name I saved the icon as.

I found a bug in Windows 11 when I opened a chrome profile, it shows up two profile icons instead of just one (see the screenshot). In Windows 10, it used to open with the bottom-right icon, but I think Windows 11 added a new place for the icon in the upper-right, but overlapping it with the old icon place instead of replacing it.

This worked for me. But I have two separate Chrome accounts for work and personal, and I realized when opening my personal account that my Google account icon/badge no longer shows. So my question is: if badges were turned off, what is the remaining icon on my Chrome taskbar and why is it still on, but my personal one isn't?

I recently replaced my home computer with a new one going from Windows 10 to Windows 11. After a bit of work the Password Manager now works for websites. The little two circle icon shows on the UserId and Password frames in websites and provides me with my id and p/w. However on my old computer I also had this icon show up in the "address bar" which I could use to access the vault as well. I do have the Chrome (my browser) extension installed but it does not show. Lots of looking in Norton help, etc. and cannot find a solution.

Everytime I log on to my user account the Google Chrome icon bounces. I have searched for help but all I find is how to disable bouncing icons completely. I'm fine with icons bouncing to notify about something but I have no idea what the notification is or where to find it.

All of my PDF files have had their icons changed to Chrome icons. The files no longer open with Acrobat Reader....they now open through the Chrome browser. I'm not sure what caused this. The only thing I can think of is that my girlfriend was on my computer renaming a PDF when I noticed a popup that asked something about file extension or destination. I tried to tell her not to hit the "yes" button, but I was too late. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem. Can anyone help me to get the icons changed back to PDF icons?

To solve the icon issue I did a right click on any PDF file, picked "Open With>Choose Another App>selected Acrobat(or Reader)>checked the "always use this app for pdf". I then had to do a restart and all was good again.

Failed option 2. type chrome://settings/content in the Chrome address bar. Check the box at the end "Open PDF files in the default viewer application, the Finished button. After I did this I tried to open a PDF on a webpage and Chrome went crazy, flashing a blank tab open and closed repeatedly.

I have the same problem with pdf files opening in Chrome. I tried changing the setting in Chrome to use the default program but it still continued to open in Chrome (even though Acrobat was the default program). I gave up, uninstalled Chrome and used Opera. Despite this, the same problem exists except now it tells me Chrome needs updating! If I use File Manager to list th files it shows pdf files with the Chrome icon. By selecting the default program to open & selecting Acrobat all is fine until next reboot.Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit. ANy help greatly appreciated. Thx.

I've just installed LastPass and was going to import password from another program. The instructions said to insure the binary component is installed. To do this it says to click on the Last Pass icon in the toolbar, and verify a setting. I do not have that icon present. The extension is installed and working. How do I get an icon in the toolbar?

Click the puzzle icon in your Chrome toolbar and verify that LastPass is there. The extension might just need to be pinned. If LastPass isn't in the list, then it might not be installed in the first place. You can verify this by going to chrome://extenions and seeing what's installed.

Every time I download cc, it appears as the google chrome icon instead of a white file. If this is fine and I'm not downloading things wrong, then how do I get them to appear in my game? I've tried un-enabling and re-enabling, and exiting the game, but it never worked. I really want to enjoy my game, but this whole thing has me pretty bummed out! Can anyone tell me what's going wrong??

Awesomeperson246 The Chrome icon means that Windows is set to open .package files with Chrome by default, as when you double-click one of the files. But this doesn't damage custom content on its own. Actually opening the files with Chrome, or trying to, would damage them to the point where the game wouldn't be able to use them though.

To control your extension's toolbar button in Chrome's UI, use the chrome.action API.The action icons are displayed in the browser toolbar next to the omnibox. After installation, these appear in the extensions menu (the puzzle piece icon).Users can pin your extension icon to the toolbar.

The "action" key (along with its children) is optional. When it isn't included, your extension is still shown in the toolbar to provide access to the extension's menu. For this reason, we recommend that you always include at least the "action" and "default_icon" keys.

The "default_icon" key is a dictionary of sizes to image paths. Chrome uses these iconsto choose which image scale to use. If an exact match is not found, Chrome selects the closestavailable and scales it to fit the image, which might affect image quality.

Because devices with less-common scale factors like 1.5x or 1.2x are becoming morecommon, we encourage you to provide multiple sizes for your icons. This alsofutureproofs your extension against potential icon display size changes.

You can also call action.setIcon() to set your extension's icon programmaticallyby specifying a different image path or providing a dynamically-generated icon using the HTML canvaselement, or, if setting from an extension service worker, the offscreencanvas API.

The tooltip, or title, appears when the user holds their mouse pointer over the extension's icon in thetoolbar. It's also included in the accessible text spoken by screen readers when the button getsfocus.

Sets the icon for the action. The icon can be specified either as the path to an image file or as the pixel data from a canvas element, or as dictionary of either one of those. Either the path or the imageData property must be specified.
