the attempt to save in SPSS format (.sav) produces the error msg below:
(Version 10.01 under W2K)
>Error # 1407
>Error when writing the dictionary to a new data file.
>This command not executed.
>Warning # 5322. Command name: SAVE
>The attempt to save the data file has failed because the disk is full, an
>I/O error has occurred, or the task was interrupted. IF SAVING OVER AN
>EXISTING FILE, THAT FILE HAS BEEN LOST. Clear some disk space or choose a
>different device and try again.
(There is plenty of disk space left)
Who can resolve this?
Thanks in advance
Klaus
I do not know the solution but you should update to version 10.07, it
is more stable (less buggy) than earlier 10.xx versions.
The patch is available from

One common problem is an illegal or inappropriate format. Some translation
programs, for example, have produced string variables whose A format widths
were not the same as the variable's length. The message, unfortunately,
offers little help in finding the problem.
We are eliminating sources of such inconsistencies as we find them.

thanks very much for the explanation. I have to admit you guys are ahead of
my rookie-matters: The inconsistency which was troubling is already
eliminated in Version 10.05.
Raynald愀 pragmatic advice to upgrade my version resolved my problem.
So, Compliments to you from SPSS and to this fine Newsgroup. It is pleasure
to feel support from both sides. Hope I can give back a lil bit to the
community as soon as i am capable to do so.
Happy weekend to you

Resolved.
I wish all problems could be eliminated as easy as this.
Thanks a lot.
Klaus
You probably have an error in one of your variable names. SPSS gets very fussy about it. Look for variables with strange characters in their name like "@".
