Noncent. Parameter

I have run a table titled Tests of Between-Subjects Effects of which
there is a banner point called Noncent.Parameter. I cannot figure out
what it means...can anyone please tell me or point to to the right
materials?

Assume that the population means and variance are equal to the values
computed for the sample. Given these assumptions, the distribution of
the F-statistic is indexed by a noncentral F-distribution with this
noncentrality parameter. Check the archives of this group under the
discussions of observed power for plenty more information and debate
on the usefulness of these numbers.
