Hi

"All variables in the working file or in the sets in use are
inappropriate for this dialog box"

I am getting that message everytime I load a set of data and even when
i manually enter a very small amount of data.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

TIA

String Cheese Theory!!!
SPSS is brain dead?
Your data entry person was impaired?
Seems like your data file has everything defined as a string/character
variable!!!

How do I change that?

It says type "Numeric" when i look at the variable view. Is there
something else I need to do?

I get the same problem whether I am importing data from an excel
generated csv file or type in a few numbers myself. It all seems odd
to me.

What happens if you
1. start with a clean reboot.
2. Start SPSS
3. Define a few variables and run a descriptive or something?

As above (cept define variables to match some in the "string-cheese"
file.
Add files together
Run same proc.
What ver of SPSS...
Next steps????
Have you offered any human sacrifices to the computer gods lately?
Sometimes helps?

is there something wrong about the measure?
"type in a few numbers",does this mean you creat a new variable by
entering some numbers?
