Programmer's assertion failed

I am unable to create any new data files, using SPSS v 13.0, after not
having used it for a few weeks. When trying to create a new file
(either by typing some data or by defining a variable - and then
either using the "Save" command from the menu or the SAVE OUTFILE=...
syntax) I get the following error message:
"The SPSS Processor is terminating due to a catastrophic error. Any
working data file is lost. An SPSS program error has occurred:
Programmer's assertion failed. Please note the circumstances under
which this error occurred, attempting to replicate it if possible, and
then notify SPSS Technical Support."
I can still open existing files, change them, and save them again.
Never had this problem before.
Does anybody have any idea what this means?
