I'm having trouble with the Utilities|File Info and the File|Display
Data Info commands in SPSS 10.1. I'm trying to get a complete summary
of the variable names etc for a large data file, but for some reason I
can only get the info for the first 7-8 questions of a 25 question
survey to display in the viewer. The rest of the data is just cut
off/not displayed.

I've tried going into Edit|Options then choosing the Viewer tab and
changing the "Text Output Page Size" to infinite, but that doesn't
seem to help.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Text messages, sucha s the file info, are displayed in a "window in a
window". Doubleclick the message and you should enter that "window in a
window" in some sort of edit mode. Then you'll see a sliding bar on the
right of the text, allowing you to scroll down to the bottom of the message.

It is not very handy indeed. I think thiswas introduced to limit the number
of page showing up in the viewer. Moreover this "window in a window" thing
leads to a clutter of sliding bars and one mis-click somewhere else on the
screen puts you back to the situation before.

My advice would be to use the Draft-viewer for functions like this. Go to
File, New, and choose Draft viewer. This new window will be the active one.
When done and not wanting to work in this draft viewer, simply close it and
output will go to the normal viewer. You can also click on the exclamation
mark-button in any viewer or draft viewer window to make it the one the
output will go to.

I hope this helps.
