I have been investigating the restart of servers once they are
shutdown/suddenly terminated. I have set the TA_RESTART parameter to Y
and the RCMD parameter to the the name of the server to be started.
GRACE is 0 and the MAXGEN is 5. But I have not been successful. What is
the condition under which a server will restart? Does it have to be
abnormal shutdown?

The restart feature restarts your server after abnormal termination. So
it has no effect if you shutdown or tpreturn (TPEXIT) your server.
Another restriction is that in general Tuxedo does not find out about
the death of your server before SANITYSCAN*SCANUNIT expired.
You don't have to specify the name of your server as RCMD. You may use
this parameter to run whatever other program when your server is
restarted (e.g. notify an administrator, do some cleanups, run related
non-Tuxedo programs, ...).
With the current settings of GRACE and MAXGEN your server will only
restart 5 times. Setting it to 5 times a day, a week or ... may be more
convenient.
And be aware that automatic restart may make you forget that your server
has a problem. So check your log file for related entries.
