I would like to use a webcam in my xpc target application. I tried to connect an ordinary webcam to the target pc but the host pc didnt recognize any webcam. Do I have to use a specific webcam like logitech xxx model ? Can I use an HD webcam? Is there any video capture card that Xpc target supports?

Shelia,

Webcams that are designed to support the standard video class protocol
should work. Those cameras don't need a special driver when used in
Windows which has a built in driver for cameras that implement the
standard protocol.

If a camera needs a special driver installed to work on Windows, then it
won't work on xPC Target.

Gordon,

Can you elaborate on the 'standard video class protocol?'

My understanding is that many typical machine vision cameras, such as those that use GiGE Vision, are not supported because the drivers are not compatible with xPC Target. Are there any plans to extend support to these types of devices?

Thanks,
Dan

Daniel,

With USB, there are several different standard protocols for different
classes of device. We have a webcam driver that meets the standard
protocol. That is what we're referring to as a 'standard video class'
driver.

If a webcam can be used in Windows or Linux without installing a custom
driver, then it is compliant with the standard video class and should
work fine in xPC Target. However, since we haven't tested with ALL
available cameras, it is still possible that there are some functions
that don't quite work with some camera. We want to hear of any such cases.

For higher performance, we have a driver for the Neon CLB CameraLink
board from BitFlow. CameraLink is a high performance digital camera
interface.

We have not added a GiGE Vision driver at this time.
