This is a dumb question but I can't findthe answer anywhere.
How can I change the size of the font in the right side (the content side) of MATLAB's help window? In R2008b in a MacbookPro the text size is very very small.

Thanks,

Val

Just a confirmation that this is a problem on MacBook Pro and I can't fix it either. Help, please.

I found this on another thread, this might help:

"okay, I found the 'solution'. Making an appropriate change to:
Preferences
Font > Custom
HTML Proportional Text
Setting it to something larger fixed the problem! "

I have the same problem, in R2010a. Setting a larger font size in preferences and restarting does nothing. Help?

This is especially a problem with hi-res monitors.

Hi,
I did follow your instruction, but nothing changed.
Could you give more details on this?

I am also having this problem. I have tried changing all the font sizes in Matlab as well as all my system font sizes. No change to the help window font size.

go to Preference->Fonts->Custom->HTML Proportional Text
circle Custom, and select a larger font size
close matlab help
and reopen matlab help.
Changes are applied only after reopening.

I do not see "HTML Proportional Text" in the Fonts->Custom window.

For lasted versions of matlab, there is no 'HTML Proportional Text ' option.

Low level control of help font size can be found within:

%matlabroot%\help\includes\product\css\site5.css

"

/* Page Globals */
html { min-height:100%; margin-bottom:1px; }
html body { height:100%; padding:0px; margin:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:62.5%; color:#000; line-height:140%; background:#fff; overflow-y:scroll; }

"
change 'font-size:62.5%' to something larger, e.g. 'font-size:100%'

Restart matlab, and it should work.

This solution changes the size of text in the help window, but does not change the size of code snippets. As far as I can tell it is only <code> environments that are not affected. Messing around with "site5.css" did not allow me to change the size of items in the <code> environment. Any suggestions?

A bit more prodding and I found out that the <code> environment is tweaked in the style file doc_center.css (same folder as site5.css). Search for the line:

/* Fix for <code> from site5, deprecating <tt> */
code { padding:0px; margin:0px; color:inherit; font-size:12px; border:none; background:transparent none; display:inline; }

I deleted the font-size setting from this line, which allowed the <code> environment to be set by the default <body> setting in site5.css.

The last solution proposed does not work for me in 2015a.

If it possible that Matlab guys do not realize that MANY people want to change the tiny font used in Help browser ???????????????????

Let us do it with cmd ++ or ctrl ++ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I want to correct my previous post:
the solution proposed below does not work if your "Documentation Location" is set to "Web, on mathworks.com" as it was mine.

But it works if you set "Documentation Location" to "Installed locally".
Bizarre.

I agree 100% with Simone. This is nuts that all of us - and I would bet a LOT more people - want a solution to setting the fonts in the HELP browser for MATLAB to something WE want it to be. That will vary depending on personal tastes, functional uses we want to make of MATLAB (like instruction), and so on.

BUT... bottom line... MathWorks... PLEASE take this issue seriously. Remember that some of your "bread and butter" is from folks who need to use HELP with ease.

The fonts we are stuck with now (2015a) are not appropriate for many of us. AND we need a way to alter the fonts - a way that does not involve low level changes in some file in a folder deep within the MATLAB install.

Thanks,
---jon---

Don't just grouse on cs-sm, submit as Enhancement Request/Bug Report
(altho TMW will probably not consider it a bug since is WAD, but makes
it seem more serious to a user perhaps) to TMW at <www.mathworks.com>

I found the answer.

"Help and Web Browser Fonts
To adjust the font size in the Help browser or MATLAB Web browser, right-click on the page and select Zoom In or Zoom Out. You cannot change the font type or style."
