I have a matlab license server and matlab clients can't connect to it.
The error is "License Manager Error -97" described in http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-184BQ/index.html?s_cid=pl_LME97_r2010a

I followed the steps from "solution" and it didn't work. mlm.exe isn't starting.

LMTOOLS shows an error as below:
--------
Status
--------
Flexible License Manager status on Mon 12/20/2010 16:04

[Detecting lmgrd processes...]
Error getting status: License server machine is down or not responding.
See the system adminstrator about starting the license server system, or
make sure you're referring to the right host (see LM_LICENSE_FILE).
Hostname: robust.mydomain.com
License path: 25...@robust.mydomain.com;
FLEXnet Licensing error:-96,7. System Error: 11004 "WinSock: Valid name, but no record (NO_ADDRESS)"
For further information, refer to the FLEXnet Licensing documentation,
available at "www.acresso.com".

What can be happening?

regards,
Bruno

Your system's name resolution process is able to determine that an entries
exists for robust.mydomain.com, but it is not able trace the name to an IP
address.

If the name exists but as a CNAME record (Canonical Name), which indicates
that "the official name of robust.mydomain.com is X.Y.Z", then the name
resolution process is permitted to fail if the entry for X.Y.Z turns out to be
another CNAME record.

This is a point that it is not uncommon for DNS (Domain Naming System)
administrators to get wrong: they tend to treat CNAME records as meaning "A
'better' name for robust.mydomain.com is X.Y.Z", and to expect that X.Y.Z is
allowed in turn to have another referral to some other name. Although some DNS
clients will follow the chain of referrals (as long as it does not produce a
loop), the standards for DNS do not expect or encourage multiple levels of
forwarding.

If you have a network administrator, you should pass your problem on to them.
