MatLab sucks. Graphing calculators can do everything it can much
much easier. It doesn't even recognize a variable preceded by a
number indicates multiplication or that two consecutive parethetical
pairs should be multiplied. Whoever wrote MatLab needs to be set
down in a chair, have a guy walk up to him with a gun to his head
and say, "If you can't graph this line in 5 minutes using MatLab I
will shoot you." And, you know, chances are there will be one less
MatLab programmer come morning.

Cool, which ones? I've got a 2-4 variable Multivariate GARCH model to
estimate, and if your calculator can estimate it, then perform Monte
Carlo simulations using the estimated process, it'd save me a whole
lot of time & effort.

matt.

PS Can't you just see in a journal article "All calculations performed
on a TI-99?" :-)

Sure ...

Try to do a wavelet transform of a digitized signal (of, say, 100,000
samples) and graph the spectrogram with your calculator.

I think a better statement is that a graphing calculator does better
than Matlab at everything _you_ need to do. If you only need to put a
picture on the wall, then a hammer will do fine. But if you plan on
building a house then you'll need a lot more than a measley hammer.

Mind is waving.

MATLAB does not suck.
James Malary does not suck.
James Malary using MATLAB sucks.

This post reminds of the Mark Twain quote where he said he couldn't
believe how stupid his parents were when he was 17 years old and then
was astonished how smart they had become by the time he was 21.

James Malary is likely to be astonished how powerful MATLAB is by the
time he is 21.

yes, matlab does suck.
you need to be a 2nd year CS major to do what you want with it.
I've been exploring python and have found it more intuitive

Agreed, MATLAB is neither streamlined nor time efficient.

a series of unpredictable conveniences,

extremely high level "programming", limiting breadth of application,

referencing quotes above ^^ : not a true language, but merely a tool for script-kitties,

similar to "Building a house"...with duplo blocks, or lego; modular and limiting

Separately--->

Make better use of your time–learn C, obj C, or if you want to produce top notch code, get good at assembly. After all, being good at MATLAB doesn't make you money. Just another shortcut

Yea good thing I have a pirated version of Matlab. For an expensive software to be so limited and less efficient than python is a piece of shit

The issues you mention are trivial to get over. To me, the biggest problem with MatLab is the hotkey mappings... The hotkeys are different from all other software. CTRL-C, CTRL-V should copy and paste! *sigh*

You can choose to use Windows, Mac, or Emacs keybindings. You could also customize one or more of the keybindings if you want.
