Camera Link Serial Communication

I am attempting to use the Image Acquisition Toolbox to communicate with a Camera Link camera (Adimec A4050m) connected to a Camera Link frame grabber (BitFlow Neon). The Camera Link specification includes a serial communication protocol for sending and receiving information to and from the camera. This communication link can be used to set parameters in the camera, enable features, etc.
Does MATLAB directly support this serial communication protocol? If not, is there a way of opening a virtual serial port using "serial" to establish this communication with the camera?
Currently I am using software provided by the camera manufacturer to setup the camera as desired before acquiring frames with the Image Acquisition Toolbox, but ideally all setup and all communication to the camera would take place from MATLAB.
