Matlab Toolbox for Singular Spectrum Analysis

I have been asked to teach a matlab class covering Singular Spectrum
Analysis. While I have been able to find research toolboxes that perform the
time series analysis, I have not been able to identify a Mathworks product
that directly supports SSA. Is this correct?

To my knowledge there currently is no official Mathworks toolbox for
Singular Spectrum Analysis. However, my research associate, Prof Chris
Aldrich, at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, has recently
developed an inhouse toolbox for Singular Spectrum Analysis. One of
his Master's students wrote the toolbox and I am the external examiner
for the thesis that reports on research regarding applications of
various forms of SSA in Process Engineering, using this toolbox.

Just for the benefit of ignorants like myself, what on earth is "Singular
Spectrum Analysis" and how is it different from other Spectrum Analyses?
