I have provided a compiled version of a program built with R2013b (32bit) to a user who has R2014a installed on his machine. The user installed it and the corresponding MCR (8.2) and it worked fine. Recently it failed to run with a message "Could not find version 8.2 of the MCR."
Reinstalling did not help.
He then tried adding the path “C:\Program Files (x86)\MATLAB\MATLAB Compiler Runtime\v82\runtime\win32 “ and now gets the error "mclmcr initialization failed."
What could have changed to cause the program to stop working? Can anyone suggest a solution?

Hi Tony,
Did your user happen to install Windows 10 on their computer?

I have an application developed using Visual C++ that calls a DLL that was created with the Matlab R2014a Compiler. This application relies on Version 8.3 of the MCR. This application was working without problems, and when I installed Windows 10 on my computer, the program stopped working The call to mclInitializeApplication fails. Recompiling did not help. Reinstalling the MCR did not help.

I contacted The Mathworks and was told that R2014a is not validated against Windows 10. They suggested I upgrade my DLL to R2015a. (That is not going to happen!) Mathworks Support sent me this link, which shows their "Platform Road Map".

As you can see, the version of Matlab you are using, R2013b-32bit, is not validated against Windows 10 either. Perhaps this is causing your problem.

I rolled my Windows 10 installation back to Windows 7, and my program started working again.

Hope this helps.....

Hi Rick,

The user is using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit OS on the PC with the problem. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
He has checked my application on another PC and that one works fine.
He has checked his list of installed programs and the only thing installed since it last worked was Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
MCR 8.2 had been installed prior to my app. Since it stopped working he uninstalled and reinstalled MCR 8.2 but it made no difference.
