I too am working on a OTDR project. I am wanting to open a standard OTDR sor file in matlab and extract the X and Y vectors for plotting and post trace review. From some intensive googling the .sor, Bellcore universal file format conforms to: issue 1: GR-196 .sor, Telcordia universal file format - issue 2: SR-4731

Were you ever able to get a reader working in Matlab? I used fread to load the file and guessed at different data types (int16, double, etc) and machine formats but had no luck producing the data on the OTDR screen. If you have a copy of the file format I could probably find time to code it.

I the project has taken a low priority because i hit the same stops as you i think. I now have a copy of the Belcore standard and i willing to share this with you if you are willing to share your code with me :)

I am also working on OTDR files and would like to automate the processing of a time series. I got to the point that I can extract the trace from my SOR files but I'm not parsing all the auxiliary information. Is there any matlab code that you know of, yet? I would be glad to share my work with others working on SR-4731 format files.

I will be like to cooperate within any field of SOR-format research.

I am working on a project of this type and would be willing to share my code with whomever can supply me with any helpful documentation.

Thanks,
