I have just finished installing Matlab 8.2 on OS X Mac. The installation went perfectly fine, but from the first time I tried to run the software I am getting this error. I followed these recommendations:
http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/97930
seems my connection to the server is good (can ping it) and I don't know what else I can check. Here is some more information on the error message I am getting:

License checkout failed.
License Manager Error -15
MATLAB is unable to connect to the license server.
Check that the license manager has been started, and that the MATLAB client machine can communicate with the license server.

Troubleshoot this issue by selecting the button below or visiting:

Licensing error: -15,570. System Error: 36

can anyone help?

Thank you!!

Try this:

http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/98092-why-do-i-receive-license-manager-error-15

If that doesn't work, contact Technical Support and work with them and your
system administrator to determine the cause.
