Hey Nino,

to install cogent 2000 simply drag the cogent graphics
folder named "CogGphTB" to "Toolbox" inside the Matlab
Folder and add the path in Matlab.

then drag the cogent2000 folder to your hard drive where
Matlab is installed and ad the path and subfolders of the
Cogent folder in Matlab.

if you do not know, how to add folders in Matlab, take a
look at the help inside Matlab.

Its easy :-)

I am having problems getting Cogent 2000 and Cogent
Graphics to function on MatLab 7.4 (R2007a). I had no
problems getting it to work on 6.5, using your
instructions above. However when I try to run .m files
that I know worked before I find that I get an error
message:

EDU>> start_cogent
??? Invalid MEX-file 'C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2007a
Student\toolbox\coggph\coggphtb\cgLoadLib.dll': The
specified procedure could not be found.

Similar messages occur for many commands and .m files.

The toolboxes have been set into the path and I know that
they are appropriate MEX-files (i.e. '.dll') because they
worked on the previous version of MatLab. Oh and I have
also tried downloading the latest version of Cogent, which
turns out to be the same as the last I had before

Put simply, I would be very grateful if anybody could help

Hi Iain,

Could you solve your problem already?
I also installed MATLAB R2007b and have now a problem with
Cogent scripts which used to run under older MATLAB
versions. The problem concerns also the cgloadlib.dll file.
Do you have any solution?
Thank you for any help.

Cheers,
Wiebke

Hi just to say that I still haven't managed to resolve the issue though I believe
, through talking to someone working at the ICN, that the problem MAY be
resolved in an update to cogent 2000 which is said to be arriving soon - this
quarter???

Right now Cogent 2000 only seems to work with versions of
Matlab up till 7.3. It has something to do with the way the
new Matlab (7.4+) handle Mex (.dll) files. As long as you
don't have the source code to regenerate these Mex files in
Matlab I'm afraid you're out of luck.

The documentation that ships with Cogent isn't very helpful
either since it hasn't been updated in quite a while (14 Mar
03!) and they only mention that Cogent 2000 has been tested
with Matlab 6.0 and 6.1.

Anybody out there still updating Cogent at all?

Regards,
Patrick

Are people still having the problem discussed above? (ie, getting an error regarding MEX files)
I was going nuts getting Cogent to work on my laptop with Matlab 7.1. I happened to have an *older* version of the Cogent download on my lab computer (same version of Matlab and it works fine)-- I copied the older version of the Cogent folders to my laptop and now everything works fine. When I try to use the files currently provided on the Cogent website, most of the basic cogent commands fail. The older version does not have the 'CogGrphTB' folder, but I really don't get what's going on.

If anyone wants to try using my older files to see if it works, I'll upload them somewhere.
