I am subscribed to this list in Google Groups. Is there a way of
getting this list as individual messages? It does not seem to be an
option for this list on Google Groups (it is an option for another
list I am subscribed to).

Not a list; it's a Usenet newsgroup.

There may still be a few e-mail to/from Usenet gateways up and running.
There used to be more, back in the days of gopher-space and Archie, but
nowadays web-based (e.g., Google and others) provide the bulk of the
alternate Usenet access points.

As Rich pointed out, this is a USENET newsgroup.

Perhaps you'd like to get a newsreader (there are a number of excellent
free ones out there) and if you don't already have one from your ISP, an
account (there are also a number of excellent free ones out there, if
you're not interested in massive binary downloads).

Trust me, the user interface you get with a decent reader is much better
than the one from Google Groups.

Tim refers to a "news server" account.

As OP is a Firefox user, he'll probably like Thunderbird as a
mail/news reader. I prefer the SeaMonkey for browser and reader
in one package.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. It's clear to me now that I need
to find a news feed that permits me to use Thunderbird as a newsreader
(you guessed correctly).

And now found one. Thanks again, everyone.
