Hi John,
instead of specifying all dividers separately, you may use Frame->All to
set all and the eliminate the single one:
Grid[{{a, b, c}, {d, e, f}, {g, h, i}}, Frame -> All,
Dividers -> {{}, {3 -> False}}]

This shows how you can selectively disable single dividers:
{m, n} = {5, 7};
Grid[Table[i + j, {i, 1, m}, {j, 1, n}],
Dividers -> {All, {All, 3 -> False}}]
It's actually a combination of the contributions by Murray and dh.
