I have a notebook with a 2D graphic, composed of several smaller
graphics. When I export it to PDF with default settings I can see only
the left side of the graphic on the right side of the PDF page. If one
changes the options from "Automatic bla bla" to "Use highest quality
vector graphics" the graphic is at the right place but the page is too
small to contain the entire graphic. The page size is NOT A4, US
letter or any other standard page size but a Mathematica chosen size
for the graphic. EPS shows the same behaviour. Any ideas?

Are you trying to export a page containing a graphic or just a
graphic?

Are you using a command or the menu interface?

If it is a command, please provide the command.

If you are talking about the menu interface, please provide the
appropriate menu selections.

Can you please clarify how you are creating the PDF? Are you using
File > Save As > PDF, File > Save Selection As > PDF, or Export[]?
Also, what is selected when you create the PDF? The graphic itself,
the graphic's cell bracket, or nothing?

Hi guys

Thanks for the responses. I am not using export. What I do is I select
the cell with the graphic and then right click on the bar next to the
cell and use File -> Save As... and then select PDF.

However, the problem is (partially) solved. The problem seems to have
been that the notebook I had was created in Mathematica 5 while I was
using v6. Strange as it may sound when I corrected all the
compatibility issues and re-evaluated the entire notebook to
regenerate the troublesome graphic anew it worked. Save as produced a
PDF with the correct page size.

While the problem is solved, it would still be nice not to have to re-
evaluate the notebook each time one has an notebook from the old
version and tries to do something similar...

To extend this thread, is there a way to specify the target artboard
size, or target page size, for an Exported graphic as part of the
options when Exporting graphics in PDF format, in 5.2 specifically?

I often Export created graphics in PDF format, then open them in Acrobat
to use them, or in Illustrator to touch them up.

I too have often seen the right hand portion of a graphic completely cut
off and totally missing, if the original graphic was too large. One can
of course avoid that by reducing ImageSize.

But even if one chooses, say, ImageSize->{6,4}*72 (convenient size to
work with on screen, convenient size to use in building presentation
slides), the result for me seems to be the 6" X 4" image pinned at the
very bottom of an 8.5" X 11" portrait type artboard.

What I'd like would be an Export option to have the resulting artboard
(or page) be either the same size as the graphic itself, or for the
image to be centered in an 11" X 8.5" *landscape* page.

Exporting in EPS instead of PDF format seems to give somewhat different
results. I haven't explored those because I want everything to end up
in PDF anyway (esp. with PDF now being native format for Illustrator).

[Answers relevant to 6.1 also welcome, as I have the upgrade in hand,
and really do have to upgrade to it sometime soon.]

I don't think there is a way to change the size fo the PDF page when
exporting from 5.2. In 6.0 Export[] or "File" > "Save Selection As"
will set the PDF page size to be the size of the graphic (or other
content) you are exporting.

I had a possibly related problem with ArrayPlot images being too large
to fit on the page when printing.
The solution was to specify "ImageSize" option. Default is "Automatic"
which gives different sizes depending
on whether notebook is viewed on screen or prinited.
