Hi All,
I'm very new to Uniface, and hence may not be aware of all concepts.

We've an application which uses Uniface 7.x.
Now, we are migrating that application to Uniface 8.4.0.2.

We installed Uniface 8.4.0.2 on the machine,
but haven't been able to deploy the IDF.

Following is a summary of issues faced during deploy of Uniface 8.4.0.2.

-- Firstly, the product was installed under $/ext_soft/usys8402.
On trying to deploy the product using IDF (exe),
system failed to read libucall.lib library.
This was set right by locating the above library,
and setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to correspond to above location.

-- After this, an IDF deploy failed to read the .so files.
The *.so files were located under $/ext_soft/usys8402/lib directory.
But system was trying to locate those under $/ext_soft/lib.
This was set right by creating a soft link of all *.so files in the above directory.

-- Next, the IDF deploy gave an error which read ::
Fatal error: 9000 - Open Failure on 'usys:usysdesc.dsc'.
The usysdesc.dsc file was located in ./usys8402/usys.
This was set right by copying the above file to ./usys8402 directory.

-- Next, the IDF deploy is giving the following error ::
8004 - Open error on keyboard translation table 'USYSTERM'

P.S. - The above errors appeared irrespective of use of '/asn' in the command line of IDF exe.
An idf.asn file was created under $/utils,
similar in structure to the idf.asn used for Uniface 7.2.0.6.

After all the above, we re-installed Uniface 8.4.0.2
under $/usys8402.
The IDF deploy continued to give same 8004 error.

Just by chance, I deleted the soft link that was created for usysdesc.dsc,
in the older installation of Uniface 8.4 (as mentioned above).
Then, on IDF deploy in the newer installation,
again the 9000 fatal error re-appeared.
I again created a soft link in apt directory structure of newer installation.
But it didn't work.
I re-established the soft link set in the previous installation, and that worked fine.

Please help.
Reply back to same ID.

Thanks and Regards,
Swati Misra

It appears that you are installing on some version of UNIX. Which one? I
wasn't aware that idf ran on UNIX anymore (except command-line). I know the
application servers do.

IDF in uniface 8.4.02 only runs on clients - not on server - maybe that is your problem ???
