Subject: [Uniface-L] idf 'Out of Memory' error

Hi, I'm using uniface again after a few years' hiatus, so forgive my
ignorance.

I recently installed uniface 8.3.02 on a win xp laptop and everything
was working fine for a while, but suddenly I was unable to open forms,
services, or reports from the IDF. Every time I click on the form (or
service or report) icon on the presentation tab of the idf, the
application closes and I receive an transcript screen with this
message:

Fatal error: 9010 - Out of memory; cannot claim more

I'm certain I'm running more than sufficient memory to perform this
operation (everything else in my system works well), so I doubt it's
that. I tried moving to an Oracle 9i db (using the uora54 driver) and
I've tried repairing the install (via the win Add/Remove screen), but
so far nothing has worked.

Any ideas, such as application settings, patches, etc that might help
would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

This problem might be fixed with the following procedure:
Start REGEDIT
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Compuware->USYS8->IDF
Delete the IDF node and restart IDF

Note:
This is messing with the registry and must be approached with some
caution. As always, be sure to have a current back up.

If you are using Oracle you might also want to check the number of open
cursors your DB is allowing you. I have 2 IDF's and 2 large production DB's
on my laptop and my cursors are set at 800.

The open_cursor setting can usually be found in the init.ora file relating
to you DB instance in the oracle admin file system.
