When I disable line wrap in PuTTY, no horizontal scroll is enabled. Is
there a way to enable horizontal scroll for lines that are longer than
the windows width?

Thanks,
Nathan

To (almost) quote Lars "No such predefined functionality exists in
PuTTY".

PuTTY is an ssh client. Simon Tatham, its author, recommends that
people with questions about PuTTY post them here. He frequently reads
and answers questions here.

putty is a terminal emulator, which is an ssh (or telnet) client, yes.
that doesn't make general putty questions on-topic, imo.

This is true; perhaps I should clarify that aspect of my Feedback
page. Up until now I don't think it's been a major problem - the
vast majority of PuTTY questions have been SSH-related, since that's
by far the most complicated bit of the software.

I'm not entirely sure where I should recommend people go with
terminal-emulator type questions, though...

sometimes people post a question that is at a tangent to their real
problem, sometimes forgetting which group they were in when they engaged
their reader to post. i was actually hoping to provoke the original poster
into rethinking their question -- perhaps there was some ssh aspect after
all, but the scroll bars were at the top of their mind. i do not want to
stifle anything even slightly ssh related, but likewise i don't think that
supporting a program which happens to include ssh is necessarily
appropriate either.

i'm not sure this is a terrible forum for these questions, provided they
are indeed few and far between. if there is a forum where other ms windows
terminal emulators are discussed that would be better, but i can't say i'm
aware of which that might be, other than a general `apps' type place like
comp.os.ms-windows.apps.misc. a quick google search shows that most
terminal emulators are discussed in forums related to the systems to which
they are used to connect, even if the issue is with the emulator itself.

and all this is just my opinion, if others accept general putty questions
they will answer them irregardless of how i feel, and i'll get the hint and
shut-up.

I did post to this newsgroup from the recomendation on the PuTTY
website. In addition I scanned the group to make sure that others were,
in fact, using this group for putty questions (although I didn't check
the FAQ - which I should have).

Although it seems to me that a separate group could be better suited for
application questions - I don't see where to draw the line (perhaps 2
new groups: comp.security.ssh.clients to be distinct from a
comp.protocols.ssh group?). Since the distinction between an app
question and an SSH question is so blurred most would be confused and
make the wrong choice anyway.
