Hi all,

I have a question that I can't find in this NG anymore, so I'd post it
again.

I have a WINNT 4.0 SP6 Server running at home with Cable Internet (Wanadoo
Premium). This is distributed through Winroute Pro so all three of my other
pc's are able to enter the internet. Winroute is also a mail server, so all
mail is pulled in by my server, and the clients pull it from the server
thereafter.
My main problem is that, somehow I can't connect to newsgroups anymore from
any of my client PC's This has been possible in previous installations and
configurations at home, but not anymore now. I tried opening port 119, but
that didn't seem to do the trick. Also I have problems connecting to ICQ
right now from my machines. And if I rember correctly Winroute didn't
require any specific setup...

Could anyone point me to what I seem to be doing wrong here??

Thanks in advance..

Khalistro

Sounds like you have added a packet filter rule that's inadvertently
blocking LAN client access to TCP port 119 outside your LAN. Check your rule
set carefully. It's not necessary to "open port 119" if that means adding a
port mapping entry.

You can debug ICQ traffic with Winroute. In the Debug Log...Log
Settings...Debug, hold the shift key down while selecting Advanced. The
category "NAT-Network Address Translation" includes the sub-category "NAT
Helper Application Logging" and within that, you can check ICQ. As you say,
Winroute has built-in support for ICQ and can log ICQ traffic to and from
ICQ servers.

Thanks for the tips, but as far as I know and checked last night I haven't
set up ANY rules...

I just left it the way it came out of the box, so to speak.
So I'm just trying to figure out what to do next :-)

I had winroute running for months just fine.. Then on a new install with
exactly the same params it just stopped working.. only the winroute proxy
was working fine.. also traceroutes and pings did work. But not browsing,
icq etc.

after a week searching in newsgroups etc i switched to sygate...
