I am using a UMax Ugate 3000 router/"firewall" that allows port forwarding to my
single host pc. I can send files out on icq, but not receive them.

I cannot find out what ports ICQ uses for incoming file transfers. Anyone know
and/or how I could find out.

Thank you very much

i think its all between 4000 - 6000 but send you and use netstat to check ,
but it is a range. each icq connection increments the ports.

You can tell ICQ what ports to use... but you have to open up the
ports in the firewall first.

Have a look at my site: http://go.to/kevin_st it gives details on how
to set this up with the 3Com OfficeConnect Internet Firewall, but the
theory should be correct for any other firewall.

I have a general question on this

Today i“ve tested my Gauntlet firewall. It connects my little private
network (10 computers) with the internet. all the computers haver per
dynamic address translation one IP to the outside.
Many to One i think it is named :)

Isn“t it dangerous to open via packet screening some ports for traffic ?
like here the tcp ports 3000-3012 ?. I thought the one and only right
way is to wirk over proxies ? or not ? but on the other side without any
packet screening rules these proxies also dont work.

Would be great if someone have an answer

Thx
