I'm running Red Hat 9 (everything up2date) and attempting to install
snort. But I'm having a hard time of it because snort will sometimes
start, but then it won't be running a moment later... and it's not
giving me an error message to work with. It starts -- and then exits
-- without logging anything too.
For example:
[root@www root]# /etc/init.d/snort start
Starting Intrusion Database System: SNORT
SNORT is up and running!
But then two seconds later:
[root@www root]# ps -ef | grep snort
[root@www root]#
The /etc/init.d/snort script runs:
/usr/local/bin/snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf -i eth0 -g snort -D
No files have been created in /var/log/snort either... (user snort has
permissions for that too, I checked)
Does anyone have any suggestions? At least with an error message I'd
be able to *start* to look for something.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much!
