Hi,

I know that this is a little off the subject, but does anyone
have a simple schematic for a video transmitter? I have an RF modulator
and was planning on just amplifying the output and putting it into an
antenna. I would prefer to just make my own because the commercial ones
are pricey, around $80 US. That's all for now.

Hi Ian!
Not to throw a wet blanket on things, but please go get your Amature Radio
Technician Class license *before* you design and build any RF transmitters.
This way you will be doing it legally. (:P) There are *lots* of very nice
and cheap ATV circuits that you can use, but you *must* be licensed.

There are two ways.

1 Get an Amateur Radio license. (Involves evening classes and exams)
This will allow you to buy or build video transmitters for several
frequencies.

2 Buy a transmitter and receiver from a surveilance equipment company.
This is far simpler. There is a UK supplier, can't remember the name at
the moment, that supplies this equipment.

Legally in UK, use 2.4GHz band. Maplin used to do kit for a system, but I
cannot seem to find it in the latest catalogue. Not legal, of course is the
videosender - A cct design and kit were on the Bull Electrical website
http://www.bullnet.co.uk.

Yes - buy an audio/video transmitter/receiver pair from Farnell:

http://www.farnellcomponents.co.uk

Part # 888-5013, about #85 UKP

Is that part number right, I get a "not found" result from a search on the
Farnell web site.

Hmmm can't find that part number in my new catalogue.....

Anyway - I think I found what you mean :

"2.4GHz FM Wireless Audi/Video Link" - £84.62 + VAT CAT# 310-3067
License Exempt, 100m range (30m indoors)

Is this the one ? - Looks promising after a bit of re-working (the case
looks quite big)

They are. I finally found them and traced the info back to CPC.

Check out http://www.cpc.co.uk Part number AV01624

They are 168mm x 39mm x 137mm and run on 12V.

Looks like they only take trade orders plus you need to set up an
account - doh !

I wonder how much they are at "trade prices" - It doesn't give you the
price in the guest catalogue.

I don't know about US customers, but for customers from the UK
Farnell seem to be quite happy with credit card orders.

Sorry for the part number confusion - the number I had was from a
Farnell 'Select' brochure (with which you can get a 5 or 10 % discount).

Tony.

PS: I don't have any connection with them; I just like their service -
more professional than Maplin but friendlier than RS.

I've got access to a paper CPC catalogue here.

The prices are the same as Farnell.

Farnell will accept personal credit card orders by phone, I've done it
several times.

They are my component suppliers of choice, too. It's just their postage
charges, speed and friendly staff which do it for me : ]

Thanks for the follow up.

CPC supply components for TV repair. Your local TV repair shop will
probably have an account.

I also notice it has an audio channel. Perhaps this could be used to
send back low speed data such as internal conditions or data from other
sensors ????

I might look into that - maplin sell a tiny CMOS B/W camera for about 40
quid that should go quite nicely with it ! (uh oh - I can hear my wallet
crying again)

I recently picked up a wireless transmitter at Babbages for ~$40.00.
It's intended to provide a wireless link between the TV and a
video game machine. They use 900 MHz, provide a transmitter and
receiver, and have a range of about 30 ft as provided. The name
is something like MAX>9600 and it looked like it might be around
for a while (not a closeout).

Farnell and CPC are part of the same group of companies. CPC have a monthly
flyer that has some incredible bargains on PC's, general electronics etc. To
give an example of these, there is currently a brand new desktop microphone (I
would expect to pay over 10 quid for) that is 0.99p or 0.75p for 10. There are
lots more bargains like this, I got a soundcard for Ł5.99. I deal with both
companies, via credit card orders. With Farnell delivery is free for orders
over Ł10, very professional company.
