I posted this in an illustrator group but have received no responses.

I am working on a MAC 10.2.8 - in Adobe Illustrator 10 trying to save a file
to send to a printer. One of the Adobe Fonts that I used is Delano. The
printer does not have this Font. Prepress cannot proceed without the Font
or Embedded Fonts in the file.

I sent the file several times by every method that makes any sense to me. I
have also saved and sent the file as an "AI" choosing "embed fonts" in the
process. This did not work either although it created a huge file.

I also tried to send the Delano Font Suite case but they received a
corrupted file. They suggested that I may have compressed the file but all
I did is drag a copy of the Font from my Systems Folder - Fonts Folder ...
to the desk top and E-mailed this as I would any other file.

How can I send the Font Package?

How can I send the art work with the font set into the file so they can
print it even though they do not have the Font?

Do you have any suggestions in saving the file that would reduce the amount
of work a printer's prepress department must spend setting up the file for
print?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

A PDF file with embedded fonts should work fine if you don't expect
that the prepress folks will need to make substantial changes.

That probably depends on what you mean by "work" and what the
expectations here are. A font embedded in an Illustrator file should
work fine when that file is printed. It will not be used, however, if
that file is opened for editing in Illustrator. So if the printer is
trying to open the file with Illustrator to see whether it contains
the fonts it needs to print, well... that's not gonna work.

Compressing the file first probably would have helped, not hurt. Mac
fonts are not like "any other file" in ways that make them
troublesome in email and FTP. The solution is usually to compress
them before sending them.

However, you need to be aware that your email program may be
compressing attachments on its own without your necesarily knowing
about it. Someone recently tried to send me some fonts to look at and
compressed them before attaching them. Then Apple Mail compressed the
attachment again, and I could figure out a way to get the fonts out
in a usable form. In this case, attaching them without explicitly
compressing them worked fine, but I still received a .zip file.

PDF with all fonts embedded.

What do you mean by "did not work"? What went wrong?

You should not, unless you have a (very unusual) font license that
allows you to install the font on two different computers in two
different companies. To be legal, they need to buy their own copy,
though printers will often angrily deny this.

Embedding the font should be sufficient for that HOWEVER they will not
be able to open or edit the Illustrator file, only place it as a
graphic.

If PDF is acceptable, just send a PDF.
