We're looking at getting a new scanner, and have seen a demonstration of a
Heidelberg Linoscan F2400XL Thunderbird (well, I made up the Thunderbird
bit). The software, LinoColor Elite looked cool and was a major selling
point. Has anyone any experience with Linotype/Heidelberg scanners or
LinoColor software out of interest?

Sorry for all the posts at once guys, hope it's not rude or anything to do
that, I just happen to have a lot of questions right now :)

We started with a little desktop Lino Saphir, & have had the Topaz flatbed
for about 9 months now. I was never trained as a high-end (read:drum) scan
person, but the software was a major consideration for us. It's pretty
intuitive & we've done some work for ad agencies producing
catalogs/architectural digests and they can't tell the difference from
convetional drum scans.

If you're buying directly from Heidelberg, try to get the on-site training
instead of at their location. It was nice to sit here with a stack of "real"
jobs & see the workings of the software, rather than jsut test materials.

Good Luck~

I wasn't so happy with the image-editing features of Linocolor. If
you're used to work with Photoshop, it will be hard to get used to the
almost-similar-but-not-as-handy tools. For instance, the magnifying
glass or the rubber stamp equivalents. I hate them.
