I just purchased a CenDyne 24x10x40 CD-RW and was wondering if anyone
has used this CD burner with the NTI Backup Now! software for Windows
98? The NTI website doesn't list CenDyne in its device listings, yet a
search of the website indicates NTI has an OEM relationship with CenDyne
and you can download software upgrades for CenDyne products (go figure ;-)).

Anybody shed any light on this topic? Much appreciate your help before
opening up the box and installing the CD drive.

tnx,

Harry

Yes, the Cendyne will work. The reason that Cendyne is not shown on
many sites it that this drive is a LiteOn 24012B, and is even labeled
as such. I have tried this software on mine on both Win98SE and XP!

When will they invent a keyboard that can type?!!!

It is, of course, a LiteOn 24102b.

Dave,

You be dah mahn!

Worked exactly as you said. Windoze device manager identifies the CDROM
as a "LITE-ON LTR-24102B" which tracks exactly in the "NTI Backup Now"
device list.

The only problem was that after three tries it was not possible to
successfully backup to a CD-R, it kept failing with various error
messages. After investigating the problem a little further, it turned
out that the CDs were TDK "music" CD-R media, which is not useable for
data backup (OK for music recording, but poor data quality, too many
write errors). After switching to TDK certified "data" CD-Rs, backup
and verification worked like a champ!

much tnx,

Harry
