This is impossible to verify, of course. It might be true, but the odds
are against it; were there people who had trouble with the tires on
their Explorers who posted to the alt.ford.explorer newsgroup? Yes.
Were there a majority who did *not* post to the newsgroup but still had
problems? Yes. IMHO, most users don't know where to turn for help and
give up, losing the use of their new CD-RW.

Are you going to tell this guy that he needs to install umpteen patches
to get to 4.03? Or that it will take him most of a day to remove all
existing CD software, then follow the 129 steps needed to get EZCD
upgraded? And that, if the moon is at the wrong latitude, his CD drives
will disappear until he reinstalls his OS?

Where are all of the Nero, CDRWin, etc., users with Win2K problems? Are
they too lazy to complain? ...but what about the rest of us who have
wasted days and weeks fighting various bugs in EZCD or DCD? Are we just
stupid? After all, you claim that the software is perfect, so we must
be morons, right?

This is a great example of FUD....non-Roxio software may work, but it
has potential to screw up other programs (which sounds like EZCD, to
me). You are more effective at this than Adrian because you aren't
officially a Roxio employee, or at least don't acknowledge that you are.

If you admitted to having a pro-Roxio bias, I wouldn't care what you
say; the fact that you claim to be unbiased and then spread this kind
of BS is dishonest. <=== DISHONEST ===

You know the number and degree of problems that
people run into with this software, but deny that there is a problem.
Why? To ensure your spot as a beta tester for the next version?

Shitty In-House Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testers at Acraptec

> corrected the engineer who replied on-list and

Are you not proud of yourself! In your attempt to salvage your ass, you
only dug deeper holes for both your ass and Acraptec. Confirming again:

Shitty In-House Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testers at Acraptec

Did Acraptec do any testing at all?

> The problem is not with NTFS but with NT and it

It's so fundamental and elementary, yet the very engineeer(s) who wrote
the program was ignorant of it! But they are supposed to have written a
"so far ahead" software! This deserves to be on the Shit List:

Shitty Programmers at Acraptec
Shitty In-House Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testing at Acraptec
Shitty Beta Testers at Acraptec

Again, does the "no brain" troll supposed to know something which even
the very engineer(s) who wrote the program was ignorant of?

> The workaround was documented on the list
> and in the primer as soon as I found it.

Ah, the workaround. Remember this? Acraptec's definition of bug:

A bug (in the usual sense) is not a bug (in the Acraptec sense)
if there is a workaround.

I am sure the fact that there is a workaround and that it's in the
primer will excuse you with your using words like, "so far ahead" and
"perfect." How could anyone to think that is beyond me.

(Oh, I know -- only someone with BIG BALLS !!!)

> All that is for your information.
> The troll has the same information,

The troll has "no brain," you intoned, remember? Yet the brainless
troll is supposed to know something!

Tell me stupid, had I not known some info, would I have been able to
catch your fraud?

>
> but it is not interested in facts.

And you are interested in facts, I presume?

Is that why you omitted to mention the "error" in your (9/24/99) post?
Is that why you used words like, "so far ahead" and "perfect"?

it is so far ahead of every other backup product

I restored it with a boot floppy ...
and recovery was perfect.

Does the above give any hint that there is an "error" and that the
workaround is on your Web page? It only gives the impression that it's
the Second Coming.

Also, who would have guessed that "every other backup product" consists
of only one product, DriveImage. Right, Mike Richter is interested in
facts -- if it means omitting or concealing facts!

More Mike Richter's facts:

(9/22/99): "I cannot get it to boot my NT system."
(9/26/01): "I was the first to raise ... the error."

(11/26/99): "I don't speak of T2's bugs because I haven't found them."

Right, Mike Richter, you are interested in facts -- if it means lying
about them!

From: Mike Richter (Acraptec Shill)

Subject: Partway back - and TakeTwo
Date: 9/24/99

I am an unabashed fan of TakeTwo and will gladly respond to whatever I
can about that product. Note that it is far from perfect, especially in
the user interface, but

it is so far ahead of every other backup product <=== Far Ahead
I have seen that it may in itself justify buying ECDC 4.

Some unwise tampering with the registry left my NT4 system dead in the
water. <=== NTFS

I restored it with a boot floppy in less than 30 minutes and recovery
was perfect. <=== Boot Floppy

The backup was made *in* NT4 while I was using the system for
other work. I have also retrieved files from the backup with the
extremely simple and reliable scheme provided.
=====================

Reading the above one can't help but come away with the impression that
Take Two is indeed the Second Coming without a bug (with the exception
of poor user interface). What was not mentioned, however, is a major
bug of Take Two with NTFS system.

Here's what the Take Two product manager said:

"Floppy Creation: Take Two needs to have a bootable disk image
in order to create the boot floppy. It can create this from
FAT-based bootable drives, but it cannot if the drives are NTFS
only. In this case, you will need to supply a bootable image for
Take Two to use."

Here's what one user said:

"If Take Two does not create a working boot disk to recover
an NT system, this is a bona fide bug, which IS a big deal
and must be fixed!"

Here's another Mike Richter post that all bugs were mentioned:

4.00 un-noticed the beta groups were increased in size to give a broader
range of configurations for 4.01 and 4.02...

=====================

The so-called DAE "issue" is this:

Major bugs fixed in 4.02 (in 3/00, 7 months after its release):

System Tests for Digital Audio Extraction. Copying audio tracks from
CD to hard disk or CD-R gave much slower results in version 4 than
version 3.x for some CD-ROM drives, so with some systems it was
impossible to copy audio tracks directly from CD to CD-R.

(In plain language, the System Tests gives "0.9x" as the DAE speed of
IDE CD-ROMs.)

This bug can be so handily and easily discovered that it is in the
category of "impossible not to detect" bugs. All you have to do is
simply run the System Tests!

Yet, Adrian Miller said, "The DAE issue did not show up until after
shipping of 4.00." He blamed this fiasco to beta testers not detecting
the bug.

What is not said, however, but clear from that statement, is that
in-house testing did not find that "impossible not to detect" bug
either.

(The Adrian Miller's post is the epitome of stupidity. He thought he
came up with yet another cute, lame excuse.)

You can come to only one conclusion from the statement: Roxio-Adaptec
in-house testing was either non-existent or SHITTY.

ECDC 4.0 system tests reports my SCSI readers as 13xSpeed for audio and
I can thus dupe to my 8xSpeed writer at 8xSpeed.
======================

The above is a FRAUD !!! This is about the infamous "0.9x" DAE speed
bug, an "impossible not to detect" one. With IDE cdrom, Ezcd 4 gives
DAE speed as "0.9x". Adaptec discovered the bug when it was released
(9/1/99). When he posted the above, without saying anything about the
bug, but as though the inquirer could do with her IDE cdrom a cd-to-cd
copy by Ezcd 4, he committed a FRAUD !!!

... Adaptec should have openly acknowledged the 0.9x DAE
problem early on. This would have saved a lot of users and NG readers a
lot of time surfing for answers to a problem which wasn't theirs. I am
one of those persons who had a new CDRW and a new CD Rom Player which
tested 0.9X with EZCD 4.01. This lead me wonder whether I was having a
hardware problem with the new gear. The Adaptec site was silent about
this, which lead me to suspect hardware, not software. However, more
intensive surfing started to reveal occasional complaints of others with
a similar problem, 0.9x DAE, but with different hardware
configurations.

When the question was posed to Mike Richter, he responded with a lot of
high-handed gobbledegook trying to minimize the problem.

( He rudely turned down a suggestion to alert readers to the 4.01
problem, and was still trying to blame it on hardware or user
misconfiguration. )

I even went back to the CD Rom seller, telling him that the Toshiba
player he sold me was defective because it only tested at 0.9X. He
replaced the unit. The new unit also tested at 0.9X.

After more surfing I finally concluded it was a software problem, which
was eventually acknowledged by Andrew of Adaptec via the NG. However,
there was still nothing on the Adaptec website about it. I believe that
Adaptec has an ethical duty to disclose all known problems on its
website. As you can see, it can save a lot of users a lot of time and
wasted efforts trying to correct an incorrectable problem.

Try using CD Speed or Exact Audio Copy (both linked from my CD-R site)
to determine how your reader performs in practice. Note that

1) Good results on a clean, pressed disc do not guarantee success on a
scratched disc or a CD-R copy

2) The manufacturer's rating on most readers is the most optimistic
value they can devise for data (not audio) at the optimum point on the
disc. What that becomes for audio in the real world is often
disappointing.

If you want to do a true CD Extra, you have to comply with the rules
for CD Extra - which means TAO and no titles.

ECDC and anything else which complies with the standard will comply with
the standard.

I know that's hard to accept, but try - real hard.

Perhaps, it's Mike Richter who should try - real hard?

Session-at-Once is ... used for CD Extra.

In Session-at-Once recording, a first session containing multiple audio
tracks is recorded in a single pass, then the laser is turned off, but
the disc is not closed. Then a second (data) session is written and
closed.

There is a glossary at Roxio's site. There is a CD-R FAQ. I also have
the ECMA standards - but am not inclined to do your research for you.

Why do you find it hard to believe that a disc with at least two

you equate to "single"? Or have you a definition for a dataudio session?

No kidding! That may be so, but then how could anyone guess that from

>

Right, Mike Richter, you are interested in facts -- if it means lying
about them!

Subject: Re: EZ Creator 4. 0 - True it has MAJOR bugs ?

They had a < significant > beta program as well as whatever in-house

=======================
From: Adrian Miller
Subject: Re: Acraptec Gibberish 101 and === More LIES ===
Date: 4/7/00

... The DAE issue did not show up until after shipping of 4.00. During
beta testing all the testers reported DAE speeds in 4.00 similar to what
they got in 3.5c.

Partly due to this going through the beta stage of
4.00 un-noticed the beta groups were increased in size to give a broader
range of configurations for 4.01 and 4.02...

=====================

What are these programs that leave the system unstable, using aspi?

Nonsense. I use the Adaptec ASPI layer on my Win2K machine in spite of
it not being supported there and in spite of some applications
which use it being unstable in the OS.

What are these applications that become unstable, using aspi?

Do these programs get unstable themselves and at the same time make the
OS unstable, just by using aspi?

Was Mike Richter spreading scares on installing aspi -- so that other
burn softwares couldn't be used?

That being the case, there should be a big warning message in DirectCD
about using CDRW.

Moreover, Take Two should not have been allowed to use CDRW. Imagine
"lethal for archiving" and yet allowed to BACKUP to cdrw without any
warning whatsoever!

But then what have we here:
