Joliet's 64 character file name limitation :-(

From the Easy CD Creator help file:

"Joliet is an extension of the ISO 9660 standard, developed by Microsoft to
allow CDs to be recorded using long file names, and using the Unicode
international character set. Joliet allows you to use file names up to 64
characters in length, including spaces."

Are there any plans by Microsoft or any other organization to revise this
standard to allow something like 256 character file names? I really hate
burning a MP3 cd and having it come out like this, and rendering the .m3u
playlist incompletely usable.

"D:\Bob Marley & The Wailers\Rastaman
Vibration\Bob_Marley_&_The_Wailers_-_Rastaman_Vibration_-_02_-_Roots,.mp3"

When the file name should be
"Bob_Marley_&_The_Wailers_-_Rastaman_Vibration_-_02_-_Roots,_Rock,_Reggae.mp
3".

There is the UDF standard that allows more characters and is widely
readable, but there are few pieces of software that will master it :-(.

(The following may all dependent on pathname and depth of directories.)

CDRWin, NTI CD Maker do up to 110 chars under Joliet.
NTI CD Maker does up to 128 under Romeo.
Click'N Burn, RecordNow Max does up to 212 chars under "ISO Level 2
long."
(These two, I believe, does up to 110 chars under Joliet.)

Speaking of which, has anyone aside from me noticed a large problem with Nero
5.5.7.2 and UDF? Namely, that when mastering a UDF-only disc, Nero still
enforces Joliet file-naming restrictions?

In Windows (all 32-bit flavors) the length limit for the _full_ pathname
(path+filename) is 256 characters for any file system. So it doesn't make
much sense to support 256 characters _names_ there.
