I recently installed the Plextor 12/20 and am very pleased with it, to
say the least. Seeing as Windows 95 has built-in drivers for it, I
didn't take much note of the disk with Plex Manager that came with the
drive. But lately I've seen a few posts that allude to it's ability to
decrease the speed of the Plex, as well as extract audio files to
.wav's. Is this a better way to make .wav's (no pun intended) than
with stand-alone software like Easy CD Pro, CDRWin et al? Has anyone
else used it this way? And lastly, what's the advantage?

Thanks in advance for your collective expertise.

Hi,
I have the 12X. The ability to slow down comes in handy. Clicks and
pops, as mentioned, To read the last track on a 'too long' CD.
Scratched or dirty disks etc.
Couple other advantages? It was specifically designed to go with the
hardware and get the most out of it. I have heard on this ng, and I
tend to believe, that it has automatic jitter control. One small window
on your screen and you have instant access to speed control, extraction
quality control, and an acceptable cd player.
One down side for me. I upgraded to win95 from 3.11 (I'm still not sure
why). I needed to keep the emm386 and himem going for some old
applications and the win95 version of Manager would work with it, so I
finally settled for using the 3.11 version in win95 until I decide to
get rid of the old aps.
