If they recommend Imation then they are really recommending CMC who also
make BASF branded discs. Verbatim are made by Mitsubishi and Sony are
normally made by Taiyo Yuden. This gives you a wider choice.
SCMS doesn't apply to CD burning unless you are using a consumer hifi
burner.

Gee...At this rate, I'd toss the HP into the trash and get a Plextor/Yamaha/Ricoh
instead. What a crummy CD-RW drive HP is! My Plextor and Ricoh gobble up all
types of discs w/o any problems at all, and there is no reason at all today that
you should suffer with such mad limitations!!
Seriously, toss the drive and get one of the three above.

If you must stick with the HP, try a Taiyo Yuden disc. Usually rebranded as a
Sony, Maxell, etc. You may be able to use CDRIdentifier with your HP if it
supports reading such information from CD-Rs. TY's tend to be one disc the HP had
better be able to write to as it is one of the 'standards' out there - they made
the very first CD-R discs for consumers years back, and if the HP doesn't work
with a TY disc, it's crap.
d =)
Imations used to be TY's but now they've gone cheap, and are made by cheapie CD-R
makers. Avoid if possible! Same goes with TDK, which have also gone cheap! A
few stacks are still TY's, but the rest are all now cheapies!
Freebie of the day for you (er, maybe you get a CD-RW that'll work with 80min
CD-Rs first?):
www.fatwallet.com/forums/ -> hot deals -> 100 FREE CD-R 80MIN from Microcenter
deal !!!!! with any item purchase (eg. stack of paper). No brand, pure silver top
with blue bottom, CMC Magnetics cheapie, but great for those tossable burns like
Napster Music, giveways, in-car-stereo meltables, etc.

I've never had a problem with /any/ brand of CDR on my HP9350.
I've used generic, TDK, Memorex, Kingston, Verbatim, Maxell,
etc. I've burned about 1400 so far, with only about two
coasters.

Me too on my 9350. My source of $20/100 CD's has dried up. Can
you suggest one/some? Thanks!
