Hi,

I am using Adaptec Easy CD Creator which came bundled with my Yamaha
4260 internal SCSI writer. With every single burn I do I get a warning
error reported - a T765 (the letter after varies - I've seen C,D and
E). Most burns seem to come out fine regardless, but I get this error
every single time. Also, when running a system test the same error is
reported, making the diagnostic claim my system is not suitable for
any of 1x, 2x or 4x writing. The following is put in the error.log
file:

T765E: TrackWriter warning - Operation continues

There is no help for this error in the documentation, or if I double
click on the error code in the Easy CD help. No mention of it either
on either Adaptec's or Yamaha's Web site. So far neither Adaptec or
Yamaha technical support has answered my email (approaching a week
now).

I have upgraded to the latest version of Easy CD Creator from the
Adaptec Web site (version 3.01b) and I have upgraded my writer's
firmware to the latest version (version 1.0f). Still the same error.

My system is: P200MMX, 64MB EDO ram, Adaptec 2920 PCI SCSI host
adapter with the Yamaha 4260 attached as ID 0, Matrox Mystique 4MB PCI
graphics, Western Digital 3 GB hard disk (master) with Seagate 3GB
hard disk (slave), Panasonic 12x IDE CDROM (master) with Iomega 100MB
IDE Zip drive (slave), AWE64 Gold, Diamond Monster II, Windows 95
OSR2.

Has anyone else encountered this error and if so, what are the
implications? Do I have a problem I should worry about?

Many thanks
Martin

Actually, 1.0g is the latest firmware.

Doesn't really sound like the problem though.

Try downloading a demo of nero or some other CDR software and see what the
results are....

1.0g is on the yamaha site ftp://ftp.yamahayst.com/pub/CRW4260/WIN_95/

nero is at http://www.ahead.de

Am having the exact same prob with my Plextor 4/12 ! Adding more memory to
my system cleared up the error message (i borrowed memory to test this, as
it is a suggestion the help file quotes) But I refuse to buy additional
memory to fix what, to me, looks like buggy software! It seems Adaptec
thinks 64MB is not enough memory for CD burning ...

Oops, yes I made a mistake when posting. I have upgraded to 1.0g.
1.0f was the firmware 'out of the box'.

I get the same warning with my Yamaha CDR400C using Adaptec Easy CD
Creator with a Symbios 810 SCSI card, Plextor 14/32 CDROM, etc. I think
it has something to do with the ECDC upgrade to 3.01b, since I never had
that warning before, but I'm not absolutely sure. I'd like to hear from
others too about this warning, I'd like to get rid of it even if it's
harmless.

I have got the error with both versions 3.01a and 3.01b, but
interesting to hear your particular problem didn't arise until after
you'd upgraded. I agree completely about the warning - it may be
harmless (if only Adaptec would respond to my email we might know for
sure) but it sure is irritating.

Hey Martin,

I have a Ricoh MP6200s and I get the same messages. I currently have
installed my third Ricoh drive. The first one seemed to work fine for
a while but when the error messages began I RMA'd it back to the place
I bought it from. The second drive did exactly the same thing so I
RMA'd that one back as well. Tech support later told me that this
drive checked out ok. The third drive continues to give me TrackWriter
Warnings in EZCD Creator, however, Nero seems to work flawlessly. My
system is as follows:

Pentium 166MMX
64MB memory
IBM IDE hard drive
ATI Expert@Play video
Diamond Monster sound card
Adaptec 2940AU SCSI
Ricoh MP6200s ID6
Plextor 20TSI CDROM ID5
Syquest EZ135 ID4
Umax Scanner ID3

I have tried reinstalling EZCD Creator, reinstalling Windows 95,
changing the SCSI cable, double checking my SCSI IDs and termination,
and even removing several devices from the SCSI chain and I still get
these TrackWriter Warnings.

If you get it figured out, let us know.

Steve

Here's an update on my situation:

Two days ago I returned my Diamond Monster 3D II 3dfx card to
the supplier because it was crashing my system. I bought and
installed this a day or so before my CD writer. Now I have removed
the 3dfx card from my system the error warnings I was getting
with my Yamaha 4260 and Easy CD Creator have stopped completely!
I get no error warnings when burning a CD or when running a system
test.

My gut reaction was that it might be insufficient power supply
which was causing problems with my CD writer and perhaps even
the 3dfx card too, as I have a lot of cards and drives in my
system and only a 200W power supply. I telephoned the manafacturer
of my PC and they confirmed that this might well have been the
case given the amount of kit I'm trying to cram in the box. So perhaps
my 3dfx card didn't need to be returned after all :) Still, we'll see
when the replacement comes back whether the problems start again. If
they do I'll try a 250W or 300W power supply and see where that leads.

I thought I was the only one to get those T765 messages with my
Ricoh... What is really odd is that, sometimes, the wrinting test in
EZCDC goes allright... but most of the time, it fails.
Anyway, I have used some other applications to test the Ricoh drive,
and everyone of them has given the same result: everything checks OK.
Maybe our problem comes only from EZCDC...
I've never had a coaster till now (about 50 CDs)... I keep my fingers
crossed.

Well I shouldn't be having power supply problems as I have a PC Power
& Cooling 300 watt installed in my system and I've even removed a TV
card I wasn't using. I could swap out the video card for a Matrox
Millenium I've got lying around here someplace though.

Let me know how you make out.

Personally I put the blame on Adaptec for buggy software. My error messages
disappeared when stepping down a driver version for my Miro DC10 card. Apart
from that, even Adaptec's own Aspichk crashes with ECDC installed!
I've switched back to Gear 4.2 (where everything works together, normally)
and now life is good again.

A follow-up to my original post for those who are interested:

I got the replacement Monster 3D II 3dfx card back from the supplier
earlier this week. Slotted it in and it works fine. Equally
importantly, I no longer get any error messages when using Easy CD
Creator with the Yamaha 4260. So, looks like the faulty 3dfx card was
somehow the root of my CDR problems. Not sure how (Device Manager
reported no conflicts and always said both the Monster II and the 4360
were working correctly), but still main thing is it all works
great now. Thanks to everyone who mailed/posted to try to help with
my problem.
