Unable to run Meinberg versions "copenhagen" or "lennon"

I tried to install and run "lennon" today. It didn't work so I
did a restore and then found that I had been running "vegas".
(I'd forgotten that "copenhagen" wouldn't run.)

The messages in Event Properties of Event Viewer / Application
are:

ntpd 4.2.4p8@lennon-o Dec 09 14:38:09 (UTC+01:00) 2009 (1)

And then the messages between ----- are repeated and repeated
and repeated ...

Can anyone provide a clue as to what I need to do to get
"lennon" running on my computer (XP Home). TIA

Sounds like either NTP is not running with sufficient rights,
or w32time did not get disabled.

NTP should be one of the users under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

You can also check to see if the NTP account is hidden
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

I started using NTP on this computer at version 4.2.4p4
"modena". p4, p5 and both p6 versions run okay. I am running p6
"vegas-v2" at the moment because neither p7 nor p8 will run.

If w32time is what is shown as "Windows Time" under
Administrative Tools / Services that is set to Disabled.

Also under Services there is an entry for "Network Time Protocol
Daemon" where the path to executable is:

C:\Program Files\ntp\bin\ntpd.exe -U 3 -M -g -c
"C:\Program Files\ntp\etc\ntp.conf"

and Startup type is Automatic.

There is an entry S-1-5-21-692534517-716253198-3390653570-1014
which has:

When you installed the new version, did you select to "Upgrade files only"
in the installer?

Possibly the user account which has been created by the "vegas-v2" installer
to run the NTP service does not have sufficient rights.

There are 2 things you can try (sorry, I'm running German Windows versions
here, so I can't tell exactly how this reads in the English version):

1.) Go to the service control manager, edit properties of "Network time
Protocol", changge from "Run as: user ntp" to "Run as: System Account",
see if this fixes the problem.

2.) Open user account management, search for the ntp user and delete it,
then install the NTP package again but do not chose to "upgrade files
only". This will create a new user with sufficient rights. Take care you
run the *installer* from an account which has sufficient rights to create
the NTP user and sassign the required rights to it.

Please note there is now a "lennon" version available which fixes an
important security bug.

I was running 4.2.5p180 on this machine, I just changed it to 4.2.6.
It seems to be working about the same as it was before.
