You would have to describe your setup and your problem more clearly to
get useful help.
Personally I don't know either "Stacks" or "MobileSMS". If the WiFi
router is under your control, you should enable encryption and set a
good password on it.

Your landlord might still be able to monitor the traffic from the
router to the Internet. You could enable end-to-end encryption for as
much of it as possible (e.g. use https for web traffic) but he'd still
be able to see what IP addresses you communicate with, and when.
Lastly you could set up an encrypted tunnel of some kind, so all the
traffic from you looks like garbage going to a single IP address out
there.
