Could someone "Please" help me understand how the internet is really working
and how I could solve my problems:
I constructed two servers and have a DSL line in operation working fine. But
I am using my ISP's IP's under my internic domain name registrations.
Therefore, I am not able to use a backup server; i.e., primary and secondary.
Also I would like to create as many hostnames to my domain name; e.g.,
news.ampmlive.com, jobs.ampmlive.com, chess.ampmlive.com. The reason I cannot
use my two servers as primary and secondary is because Internic will not
allow me to use my two IP's, which are loaned to me by my ISP, for my domain
name servers. Therefore, I must use my ISP's IP's which point to his server
and direct the traffic to a single IP which points to one of my servers.
Currently my ISP recognizes two of my domain's: www.ampmlive.com and just
ampmlive.com. I do not wish to bother him every time I want to change or add
another hostname.
Internic has pointed me to arin.net which is responsible for American IP's.
Do I need to purchase IP's to do what I want and if so do I really need to
pay $2500 per year? Perhaps I need to find an ISP that will loan me
"Registered" IP's so I could use them to modify my internic domain server
list registration.
Please respond via email:
pac...@iname.com
Thank you very much!
Regards,
Paul

The internet does not really work. I think you need to study the O'Reilly
book on DNS and bind.
