Hello,

I have one simple "problem".

We are using several samba servers for file and print sharing in different
locations.

On my W2K PDC I'm getting this error:

######################################

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Logon/Logoff
Event ID: 529
Date: 17.3.2003
Time: 16:18:15
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: DOMAIN_PDC
Logon Failure:
Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: SAMBATESTSTELAM
Domain: MY_DOMAIN
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: NtLmSsp
Authentication Package: NTLM

#######################################

Here is the smb.conf on one server (all are in the same way):

[share3]

##################################################

I'm using guest access, except for one some users which can update the
share.

Domain controller is Windows 2000 server in mixed mode.

On the client side we are using Win98se and W2K Pro SP3.

Samba version is 2.2.3a on Suse Linux 8.0 pro.

Everything seems to work fine, except of this error in the event log of my
PDC.

Any help is appreciated.

So, it has been 12 years since this post and others yet we still have this problem today.... Was there 'reasonable' solution?
I am assuming there was one as the posts, so far, have been all from 2005 or earlier. We have this with AIX 7.1 servers, from Linux SLED 11.2 systems. Don;t know if our NA domain servers are 10 years old, but I seriously doubt it. So, why do we still have this?

We see more on this at:

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/System-Administration/sambatest-HOSTNAME/m-p/3295371#M182906

But no real solution there either.
