I have a large DNS for a free project I am running - basically I'm
providing a yahoo style directory for my local university and giving a
free "cloaking" url to each entry in the directory.
We have about 10,000 entries in the DNS (yep, 10,000).
It is likely that more will be added regularly.
I need (a) someone to host the DNS (primary) (b) and automated way to
update it - perhaps sending email to a robot which controls the zone file
and (c) it's preferably got to be free or low cost ($25/year max). Mail is
not required.
I'm currently using the Public DNS at GraniteCanyon, but my zone file is
going to be to big for their web form!
Please see http://www.aber.nu for more info on the project and
http://www.pjg7.aber.nu for a redirector url - this loads a page stored at
http://www.aber.ac.uk/~pjg7/index.html
Please let me know if anyone can help.
(I'm unable to host it at the uni before you ask!)
Thanks
Peter.

"To look back all the time is boring. Excitement lies in tomorrow"
...have you seen www.aber.nu? - It'll be a "nu" aber web site.
Why? Why is http://cloak.aber.ac.uk/ so much better than
http://www.aber.ac.uk/cloak/?
It's not like a web farm, where each client wants their own www.company.com
domain because it looks more legitimate. If I understand you, these are
all hostnames in one domain, so nothing about the hosting domain is being
hidden.

You should be running your own DNS server. I don't think you're going to
find anyone willing to do this amount of work for nothing.
We're a tier-1 ISP providing connections mostly for corporate clients. We
charge big bucks for our Internet connections and include DNS service in
it, but we limit our customers to 100KB of DNS data. I'm sure most other
ISPs have similar limits.
