I am new to this and I have question about DNS. I am building a small
Intranet which is working well. Now my question is: Is it possible to
have "domain-names" within an intranet? The result should be that
users don't have to use the virtual IP-number but be able to use a
written adress, like on the Internet.

If you have a net that is completely dissociated from the Internet,
then it's relatively easy to set up DNS. You just need to run your
own root servers, and configure these in any other servers (or you
could just do it all in the roots :-). The critical difference is to
realize that you don't get delegation from anywhere for these, as they
are the root, and that's the point.

If you are somehow (even indirectly) connected to the Internet, then
you need to take special care to prevent leakage, and do a few
additional things to allow resolution of outside names (if needed).
This is so-called "split DNS" type of arrangement and is relatively
common. I've set up both of these styles of DNS as part of my
consulting practice, neither is particularly hard to do.
