We are running bind 4.9.x (4.9.4, I believe) on a Sun IPX as our primary DNS
server. We just added a Linux box running RedHat Linux 5.0 on a PC as a
secondary DNS server. When the zone transfer time comes around, the hosts.rev
file gets transferred no problem, but the hosts file never does. I suspect
this has something to do with the settings in named.boot on the primary server,
although I'm not sure about that. If anyone can help, I'll be happy to send
copies of the named.boot files on both boxes and the headers of the hosts and
hosts.rev files on the primary server (and anything else pertinent). Thanks.

Most likely there's a syntax error in the primary zone file, so the Sun
won't respond to transfer requests for that zone. If you check the syslog
on the Sun when named starts up, it should say what line the error is on.
