I am able to ping, tracert, nslookup and dig a W2K server I recently set
up with a static IP address and which I have joined to domain. However,
I get a Service Manager error which complains about the DnsApi and amd
unable to see the server from the Network Neighborhood. The master zone
and conf check out OK with named-conf and named-checkzone. I am running
named 9.2.2 on a Solaris 9 machine. I've attached the DnsApi error
message from the W2K server and the nslookup command results. Could
anyone offer some suggestions please. Thanks in advance. Also I hope
this is the correct mailing list for questions of this sort.

DnsApi Warning None 11153 N/A ERIMACRUS
The system failed to register network adapter with settings:

Adapter Name : {904B0B5A-259F-436B-9E4D-F69B453778B1}
Host Name : erimacrus
Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : kfrc.noaa.gov
DNS server list :
161.55.98.36
Sent update to server : 161.55.98.36
IP Address(es) :
161.55.98.38

The reason it could not register was because the DNS server
refused the dynamic update request. This could happen for the
following reasons: (a) current DNS update policies do not
allow this computer to update the DNS domain name configured
for this adapter, or (b) the authoritative DNS server for this
DNS domain name does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.

To register a DNS host (A) resource record using the specific
DNS domain name for this adapter, contact your DNS server or
network systems administrator.

Thw W2k system sent a DDNS packet to the DNS server

161.55.98.36 (lithodes.afsc.noaa.gov.)

That DNS server refused the DDNS request. Look at

www.eventid.net

and entry the 11153 eventid. You will get more information.

It could be the case that this eventid can be ignored; it might be the
case that the MS code issues the DDNS request and reports on the
request failure without checking (either before the DDNS or after)
whether the required information is already in DNS. I have seen this
with other MS W2k DDNS requests.
