Hi,
I work as a Clinical Scientist in the NHS and have recently been commissioning Samsung diagnostic radiography rooms with portable digital detectors and wondered if you could help me witha query I have regarding the DICOM standard.
For all previous systems I have tested the DICOM Detector ID (0018,700A) has been a unique string corresponding to the serial number physically displayed on the detector. The length of the serial numbers of some Samsung detectors is 25 characters in length whereas the DICOM Detector ID only holds 16 characters. This means that the unique terminating characters of the string of the serial number is not visible in the DICOM header files meaning it does not appear possible to definitively identify which physical detector a particular DICOM image was taken on.
Are you aware if there is any requirement in the DICOM standard for the detector ID to be unique so that a DICOM image can be traced to the particular detector used?
